The initial will appear three-quarters of the way up the vase on either the right side or left, depending on which way you'd like the vase to face during the ceremony. If you'd like the vase on the right side (next to the groom's vase) then the initial should be on the right side of the vase, and vice versa for the left side (next to the bride's vase).
